Great Blog Site!

I discovered this site (as I'm sure you've seen already) off Challie's blog--it provided about 45 minutes of very difficult laughter (not good since I'm on the phone). Check it out--it's going to be one of my favorite.

Edward's Quote

Man, I have been floored by this quote I saw this morning on Tim Challie's website:

The Bible tells us of “…that great Savior, who, after such preparation, actually accomplished the purchase of redemption, and who, after he had spent three or four and thirty years in poverty, labor, and contempt, in purchasing redemption, at last finished the purchase by closing his life under such extreme sufferings as you have heard, and so by his death, and continuing for a time under the power of death, completed the whole.” (Jonathan Edwards, History of the Work of Redemption)

All of the life of Christ and the death of Christ and the resurrection of Christ and the exaltation of Christ (ie. the whole person and work of Jesus) has "completed" (finished, accomplished) all of my salvation.

Packer Quote on Penal Substitution

I want to remember this quote from J.I. Packer

"Jesus Christ our Lord, moved by a love that was determined to do everything necessary to save us, endured and exhausted the destructive divine judgment for which we were otherwise inescapably destined, and so won us forgiveness, adoption and glory. To affirm penal substitution is to say that believers are in debt to Christ specifically for this, and that this is the mainspring of all their joy, peace and praise both now and for eternity."

End of the Spear!

We are so excited! Both my favorite book "Shadow of the Almighty" and Michelle's favorite actor Chad Allen (i.e Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman) are teaming up for a huge feature film about God's work with the Wadoni tribe. I can't wait to see this--this looks really good!

Why a Blog?

We have nothing to add to the overcrowded information super-highway. However, if C.J. Mahaney is right when he says God gives us "post-it notes" of His grace in a hundred different ways everyday, then this blog will serve us to record with others God's shocking graces in our lives.

Let's begin with the cross. All my sin merits is God's judgement. Then why a beautiful wife and two wonderful children; a home; family; friends? Only one answer: God's shocking graces that tremor from the quake of Calvary. If Jesus took care of my greatest need by recieving God's wrath against my sin on the cross, let me be aware that anything good that I will boast in will be a boasting in the cross that purchased all these things (Gal. 6:14). Thank you Jesus!

The Best Photo We Have!

Well, here's the best family photo we have so far. This was right after Joel was born. Neither of us has slept and Sam had been partying at the Nickel's for the weekend. The following days were some of the most glorious and challenging in our lives! Posted by Picasa
